On graduating

Graduation, as a friend of mine aptly observed today, doesn't feel like much. It feels like a pointless party, recognition for something you didn't really do all that well in the first place. It feels like when someone asks you on your birthday, "So how's it like to be eighteen?" You feel absolutely the same.

There is no great weight put on or taken off me tonight. The only thing cheering me up is the prospect of parties all day long tomorrow, and of wearing one of my favorite dresses to celebrate.

You will realize what your achievement means someday, don't worry. Congratulations.
