(Confused about) the concerts for a climate in crisis

Quite simply, what is the correlation between rock concerts and global warming? It seems like Sesame Street for adults, the idea being that a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down. But I'm skeptical of the idea that by juxtaposing this information with something that people want to see, they will somehow be able to effect change in the way people think about global climate change.

In fact, I believe it's the opposite. It trivializes the intentions of Gore and others concerned about the issue. Gore had the right idea with An Inconvenient Truth, and would do well to stick with presenting information in a straightforward way. The concept of Live Earth works well in public-access educational shows for toddlers, but when the problem of climate change is packaged within a rock concert, it reeks of condescension.
